American Bald Eagle Wildlife Picture Goes Viral

A Canadian amateur photographer says he is "overwhelmed" by the worldwide response to a photograph he took of a bald eagle.

Steve Biro snapped the image of Bruce the bald eagle at the Canadian Raptor Conservancy and first posted it on some Facebook photography groups.

The image of the bird of prey "staring daggers" at the photographer with its piercing eyes has since gone viral.

The photo is one of several hundred Mr Biro took of the bird that day.

"He's squared up perfectly, both wings are touching the water," he told the BBC. "That [photograph] was the one that struck me as as little more special than the others. But I still didn't even know how it would resonate with people."

The photograph eventually made it to the front page of Reddit and has since been picked up by media around the world.

Birds are usually undisturbed by photographers visiting the Canadian Raptor Conservancy in Ontario. But Mr Biro says the eagle seemed irked at where he was positioned with his camera.

"He was actually trying to brush me away from where I was perched," he said.

"I could feel the breeze from his wings as he flew over me. The other people who were there were gasping as he came over my head. It was really quite exhilarating."

Mr Biro said as soon as he got up off the rock where he had been sitting, Bruce the eagle flew over and claimed the spot.

The amateur photographer began taking photos about 10 years ago as a hobby - "nature pics, landscapes, city pics, I love it all".

But he says he has a soft spot for capturing images of birds.

"There's something about birds that to me is captivating," Mr Biro said.

"The way they hunt, the way they interact. Sometimes you'll see them do things. They'll be playful, just like children. It's amazing how you'll see aspects of humanity in birds - and in animals overall."

Mr Biro says photography challenges him to see the world "like I'm a child again".

"I try to look at it like I'm in awe of it all the time, and in wonder of it."

Bald eagles are widely distributed across North America.

In the United States, where the bird is the national emblem, it nests in more than half the country. In Canada, it's more commonly found in British Columbia, across the prairies and in parts of Ontario.

Electric Cars Vehicles EVs - Revealing Reviews Of All The Latest & Best Electric Cars - EVs - Drive Once - Love Forever!

EVs might cost more than their petrol or diesel counterparts today, but that gap is narrowing.

The latest research by analysts at Deloitte suggests that price parity with internal combustion cars is likely by 2021.

'In the UK, the cost of petrol and diesel vehicle ownership will converge with electric over the next five years,' predicts Michael Woodward, UK automotive partner at Deloitte.

'Supported by existing government subsidies and technology advances, this tipping point could be reached as early as 2021.

From this point, cost will no longer be a barrier to purchase, and owning an EV will become a realistic, viable option for new buyers.'

Look past the currently steeper initial purchase price, and rich savings beckon from the moment you buy an electric car.

Your ongoing fuel bills are likely to be dramatically lower if you take the plunge and go for an EV and you'll likely never have to visit a petrol forecourt again.

You can even charge up your electric car wirelessly now; BMW launched inductive charging in 2018.
So, want to know the best pure electric car for you?

Best electric car 2019: for a buying guide to the models below - Click Here

Like any fossil-fuel powered car, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) come in all shapes and sizes, and which EV is best for you will depend on a variety of factors.

You’ll need proper access to charging points at work and/or home, so you can top up your battery enough to meet your typical daily range.

There's no point having the hardware if you don't have the infrastructure to support it.

Sales of electrified cars in the UK rose 21% in 2018 and automotive researchers at Sophus3 concluded that electric cars are now the fourth most searched-for category online.

Research for leading Youtube channel The Fully Charged show suggests that only 5% of electric car drivers would go back to a fossil-fuelled car once they've owned an EV.

Of the 7700 people polled, the biggest stumbling block to purchase was higher list prices.

But once you experience the delights of an EV, the chances are you'll be hooked by the saintly silence, clean conscience and lower running costs.

New Skoda EV Electric Car Launch.

Skoda has launched the all-new CITIGOe iV electric car at an event in Bratislava, Slovakia.

This is the Czech car manufacturer’s first ever electric car and is a zero-emissions iteration of the internal combustion engine model.

Skoda stated that “the era of mobility begins today” as the car silently edged onto the stage. Engineers described the launch of the CITIGOe iV as a ‘very special moment’ and boasted that the EV is the ‘perfect e-car for the city’ - and they may have a point.

Skoda CITIGOe iV The compact electric car is priced ‘well below €20,000’ which suggests a sub-£17,500 in the UK, making it relatively affordable.

One issue people have with electric cars, especially those of this price point, is that they don’t have a very ‘useable’ range.

However, the new Skoda electric car has 265km (165-miles) of real-world range on the WLTP standards. This will be suitable for the vast majority of motorists and the car will likely take on sister company’s VW’s e-Up and the Renault Zoe, which can't match its distance on a single charge.

Powering the pocket-sized electric car is a 36.8kWh which can be recharged to 80 per cent capacity in 60 minutes when hooked up to a 40kW fast charger.

Using a 7.2-kW AC wall box, the battery is charged to 80 per cent in 4 hours 8 minutes, or 12 hours 37 minutes using a 2.3-kW home-charging station.

It should also be fairly nippy off the line as it has 210Nm of torque and unlike an ICE it can use that torque immediately giving you instant acceleration.

It has a power output from its electric motor of 61kW which in conjunction with the torque allows the car to sprint from 0-62mph in 12.5 seconds.

It is also the same size as the Citigo which means that interior space isn’t compromised by the battery pack, which has been fitted into the floor.

The design of the car is distinguished by the body colour radiator grille giving it a fresher new look and the word Skoda spelt out across the boot, a new signature from the firm. Its wing mirror has also been designed to integrate the indicators into them.

The car measures just 3,597 mm long and 1,645 mm wide and has a 250-litre boot which can be extended up to 923-litres by folding down the rear seats.

ŠKODA CEO, Bernhard Maier, said, “Today, ŠKODA is entering the era of E-Mobility – a very special moment for the company, which will celebrate its 125th anniversary next year.

“Two models are kicking things off: our first all-electric model, the CITIGOe iV, as the brand’s first step into the E-Mobility era and the SUPERB iV as the brand’s first plug-in hybrid model.

“In addition, we are presenting the new edition of our flagship model, the SUPERB, with a refined design and new technologies.”

The U.S.A. Government have A Patent On Cannabis - What ?

(Washington, D.C.) – On December 20 President Trump may have made medical history. He signed the 2018 Farm Bill into law. Within its pages is a provision lifting a wrongful ban on what some experts consider “nature’s miracle pain remedy.”

The natural pain relief properties of CBD Hemp are so remarkable the U.S. Government even holds a patent (#6,630,507)

Here's the link - US Patent 6630507 – The US Government's Cannabis Patent - What the US Patent 6630507 says in brief - The patent clearly states that cannabinoids are powerful antioxidants which have the potential to treat a myriad of,age-related, inflammatory, and auto-immune disorders.

The patent goes on to say cannabinoids are also a natural neuroprotectant which could help treat neurological damage caused by stroke and trauma, as well as, other health conditions…

For the past 70 years, this safe and natural pain breakthrough has been outlawed.Drug companies lobbied against it. Politicians, pressured by Big Pharma, supported measures to keep it out of the public’s hands. Now CBD Hemp from the Cannabis plant is available to everyone for the first time without a prescription.

This proven pain relief miracle is drug-free. Scientific studies from around the world have shown it treats arthritis, chronic pain, joint aches, inflammation, anxiety, stress, depression, PTSD, insomnia and a slew of other common ailments. The amazing thing is it does all of this naturally. That means no more prescriptions, no more doctors and no more addictive and deadly opioids.

Pure CBD is derived from Hemp.It provides Cannabidiol (CBD) which has the health benefits without the psychoactive intoxicating effects of  cannabis plant family member, THC.

Plant scientists have separated the two cannabinoids and the world of Natural Health benefits, now, and increasingly in the future, thanks to ongoing scientific plant research..

Americans across the country rely on Pure CBD daily. This pain relief miracle is becoming a national sensation. Many believe it is the best natural alternative to addictive prescription painkillers like Vicodin and Oxycontin.

Respected doctors, athletes, celebrities, and everyday folks report amazing results. Many swear by it. So we decided to find  if Pure CBD really works, and if it has any unwanted side effects.

Many of the staunchest detractors of CBD have made a complete “about face.”

Dr. Sanjay Gupta was once a strong voice against medical cannabis use throughout his career. Recently, he reversed his stance admitting, “The science is there. This isn’t anecdotal. CBD can help.”

In an open letter to former U.S. Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, he wrote: “The consensus is clear: Cannabis can effectively treat pain.”

We dug deeper and found further evidence that CBDPure has the ability to stop pain in its tracks. In addition, this super-powerful compound relieves a number of other health issues.

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine agrees with Dr. Gupta’s conclusion after conducting what it called the "most comprehensive studies of recent research" on the health effects of cannabis.

According to their comprehensive report, the many health benefits of CBD include:

• Reduced feelings of anxiety
• Reversing brain damage caused by alcohol
• Anti-inflammatory, neuro-protective, and anti-oxidant
• Reduces nausea and vomiting
• Suppresses seizure activity
• Combats psychosis disorders
• Relieves depression
• Fights cancer cells
• Greatly reduces seizure activity
• Pain management
• Diabetic support

They are not the only ones.

Dr. Mehmet Oz has also had a change of heart. He confessed on Larry King that he grew up thinking Marijuana (Marijuana is the Mexican name for Cannabis) was “something Satan was throwing at Americans and a communist plot.”

Today he believes medical uses of marijuana can be “hugely beneficial when used correctly.”

And Dr. Travis Stork, during an episode of “The Doctors”, said CBD is a natural solution to pain management and inflammation.

Furthermore, he confirmed that it is even more effective than prescribed painkillers.

So Effective The U.S. Government Has A Patent!

You know you’ve got something special when the U.S. government gives it the “thumbs up.”

Former speaker of the house, John Boehner , told voters in 2011 he was “unalterably opposed” to marijuana legalization. He has since come around stating that “my thinking on cannabis has evolved.”

The New York Times recently quoted Mr. Boehner as saying that cannabis “can help our veterans, and reverse the opioid epidemic ravaging our communities.”

Even Harvard Medical School reports it is “an option for treating different types of chronic pain.”

Scientific Studies Show Only Positive Effects

Study after study proves the ingredients in hemp-derived CBD are a miracle remedy. It offers a wide range of therapeutic benefits helping to alleviate various conditions including:

• Chronic pain
• Rheumatoid arthritis
• Fibromyalgia
• Joint inflammation
• Memory problems
• Anxiety
• Nausea
• Schizophrenia
• Diabetes
• PTSD
• Alcoholism
• Strokes
• Cardiovascular disease
• And other ailments.

It’s important to understand that CBD isn’t just for those with medical conditions. Healthy people also benefit from using CBD as part of a preventative health plan. It promotes quality sleep, helps reduce stress and anxiety, and acts as a natural anti-inflammatory agent, in other words it helps keep your immune systems natural defences alert and healthy.

Even better, there are no scientific studies to date showing any negative side effects of consuming cannabidiol regularly. CBD has actually been extensively studied and proven to have only positive effects. This is part of why taking it is so appealing.

The World Health Organization reports…

“In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”

That’s why CBD is fast-becoming the “go-to” safe pain relief remedy for millions of Americans.

Even Hollywood celebrities and world-class athletes use it for their ailments. Since it works so well, word has spread to millions of fans.

Regular Folks, Hollywood Stars & Top Athletes Swear By It

Joy Smith: “This Is All Down To The Cannabis Oil. I Shouldn’t Be Here, But I Am.”

Joy Smith -- Joy has been making the rounds all over the U.S. to tell her story about how hemp-derived CBD literally saved her life. After being diagnosed with stage IV cancer, Joy was given literally weeks to live. That's when a friend told her about non-narcotic CBD.

Joy feels that CBD saved her life. She has been cancer free for nearly 2 years and in that time, has been a tireless supporter of legal CBD in all 50 States and all over the world. In fact, countless celebs admit they avoided taking harmful medication, by taking this safer, more powerful alternative.

Morgan Freeman: "The Only Thing That Offers Relief For Fibromyalgia is CBD"

Jennifer Aniston: "I Enjoy Using CBD And Wish More People Knew The Benefits"

Everyone from Michael J. Fox, to Whoopi Goldberg, to Montel Williams and pop sensation, Rhianna endorse the health power of CBD.

So do professional athletes and coaches including: 5-time NBA champion, Steve Kerr… MMA fighter, Nate Diaz… NFL linebacker, Derrick Morgan… and NFL Super Bowl champ, Cullen Jenkins among many others.

The Verdict: “Nature’s Pain Buster” Works

People From Coast-To-Coast Are Finally Living Pain-Free

Just like Enedina Stanger who recently said…

"I owe everything to my faith, my family, and CBD. It really is a miracle. I wouldn't be here without its healing effects." - Enedina Stanger

Enedina even made history by participating in the grueling “American Ninja Warrior” competition after being stuck for four years in a wheelchair. She credits her amazing physical recovery to CBD.

Enedina says, “It really is a miracle. I wouldn’t be here without its healing effects.”

Greedy drug companies are outraged that seniors now have a safe, non-prescription, pain remedy to treat arthritis, chronic pain, joint aches, inflammations & other ailments.

About The UK Parents Going To The Netherlands for Their Child's Epilepsy Cannabis Medication.BBC Video.

Many of you will have seen the BBC video of the parents who have to go to the Netherlands to get CBD OIL to control their child's epilepsy. If not it is at the end of this post.

How can this be? Since November 2018 the UK government allowed specialist doctors to  treat this rare type of  child Epilepsy by prescribing  Cannabis Oil with over 0.3% THC content.

So far only 2 doctors have prescribed it.The medical profession claim they are uneasy giving a medicine without scientific testing and proof of safety.

In a way,in this age of litigation, I can understand the doctors concerns .Would their insurers cover any resultant claim from the use of a medicine that has not gone through the normal scientific trials?

But I'm also suspicious. From my 30 years experience in herbal medicines, I know that the orthodox medical profession and the pharmaceutical companies do not like alternative medicines. So I sense there is a vested interest lobby behind the slowness in testing, approving and using a natural plant medicine that can be seen to work with epilepsy.

I would also like to see justification for the £1000 cost of the CBD oil obtained in the Netherlands.Legal Cannabis derived medical products will be  seen as expensive, because of the testing for legal compliance that has to be done at every stage of production, from seed planting to final product. But the price the parents paid seems extortionate and exploiting desperate parents is despicable.

The parents say they will be unable to afford another months supply the same way.But with the publicity given to their case surely common sense will break out and enable the child to get the medicine needed.

I'm sure it will happen, but if not, I would recommend they try CBD Hemp Oil.There is confusion here I know, but I hope the answer below to the question - Is CBD Oil from the Cannabis Plant Proper, and CBD Oil from Cannabis Hemp, the same?

Not Exactly. Legal CBD Oil is extracted from Industrial Hemp, which is a Strain of the Cannabis plant, historically grown as a source of fibre to make paper, textiles, rope, and use their edible seeds to produce oil.

More recently, plant scientists started researching Industrial Hemp to find ways to separate the valuable medicinal properties of the Cannabis plant from the intoxicating addictive THC side effect.

Research is concentrating on cultivating Industrial Hemp to be high in CBD (Cannabidiol) and very low in psychoactive THC (tetrahydrocannabinol).

CBD Hemp products are set to revolutionise the alternative natural medicines world, and justify their claim to give 'Health without the Highs'.

Triumph Reveal Plans For Electric Motor Cycles

Brit firm Triumph announce TE-1 electric motorbike collaboration project

The museum at Triumph's headquarters may soon need some fast-charging facilities...
Triumph have announced a ground-breaking plan to accelerate the addition of electric motorcycles to the range in collaboration with other key UK innovators, including Williams Advanced Engineering.

The project, dubbed TE-1, will target the rapid evolution of powertrain solutions over the next two years, with a view to developing a light, compact battery-powered drive unit that will power a new generation of Triumph motorcycles.

While TE-1 might sound like a bike model, Triumph have confirmed to MCN that this project is focused on battery technology, motors and the packaging constraints that currently hinder electric motorcycles – not building a specific single model.

The tie-in with F1 legends, Williams, is key to the project’s success, with the firm able to provide industry-leading lightweight battery design and integration capabilities. Other partners include motor and inverter experts, Integral Powertrain, the electric specialist team at the University of Warwick – WMG – and government funding via the Innovate UK science and technology agency.

Triumph's Nick Bloor speaks exclusively to MCN
"This new collaboration represents an exciting opportunity for Triumph and its partners to be leaders in the technology that will enable the electrification of motorcycles," said Triumph CEO, Nick Bloor, "which is driven by customers striving to reduce their environmental impact, combined with the desire for more economical transportation, and changing legislation. Project Triumph TE-1 is one part of our electric motorcycle strategy, focused on delivering what riders want and expect from their Triumph, which is the perfect balance of handling, performance and usability."

And therein lies the crux of the project’s importance to Triumph. This isn’t a project aimed at rushing a wildly expensive, or under-performing electric bike into the marketplace in order to tick a box. Triumph are determined that customers will be able to make like-for-like decisions about which bike to buy regardless of the powertrain. In the future this could mean having the choice of a petrol or electric Street Triple – with no overt compromise to either choice.

Steve Sargent, Triumph’s Chief Product Officer added "Our future product strategy is focused on delivering the most suitable engine platforms for the changing landscape of customer needs, and we see a Triumph electric powertrain as a significant requirement alongside our signature twin and triple cylinder engines. Project Triumph TE-1 represents an exciting collaboration that will provide valuable input into our future line-up.

"We are incredibly pleased to have the support of OLEV and Innovate UK, and to be working together with the UK’s electrification experts and academic leaders, in an endeavour that ultimately is focused on the future prosperity of British industry, and the future of motorcycling."

While the project will aim to lead to model development, this is still several years in the future, with this first phase aiming to deliver powertrain solutions in two years’ time, ahead of any specific model development starting in earnest.

One key aim is increased systems integration, developing individual components of automotive-based electric drivetrains and optimising them for motorcycle systems which reduce mass, complexity and packaging requirements.

Triumph have become the masters of packaging in recent years, and will work alongside the partners to accelerate the safety of batteries, optimum electric motor sizing and packaging, the integration of braking systems including regenerative braking, and advanced safety systems. The innovation and capabilities developed in these areas will input into Triumph’s future electric motorcycle strategy.

"The team at Williams Advanced Engineering is looking forward to applying our expertise in the electrification of transport with our partners," said Craig Wilson, Managing Director of Williams Advanced Engineering.  "Williams has powered a number of world-renowned electric vehicles already and this will be a significant further step in our work by taking that knowledge onto two wheels."

"We are extremely pleased to be supporting Triumph Motorcycles with their future electrification strategy and in a project where we can apply our experience to engineer an extremely power dense, efficient and highly integrated motorcycle electric drive," added Andrew Cross, Chief Technical Officer at Integral Powertrain Ltd.

"Electric motorcycles will have a vital role to play in future transport across the globe - delivering reduced congestion and improved urban air quality as well as easing parking," added Professor David Greenwood, Professor, Advanced Propulsion Systems at WMG, University of Warwick. "They will also be great to ride, with copious, easily controlled torque delivered smoothly at all road speeds."

The museum at Triumph's headquarters may soon need some fast-charging facilities...

One Bitcoin today, May 15 2019, will cost you about $8000 - Whither Bitcoin?

Is it a Bitcoin Money Tree we've found?

I haven't written about Bitcoin for ages, because it hasn't being going anywhere.Just yo-yoing between the $3000 &$4000 per coin mark for over 12 months.

A bull run started about a month ago and as you will read below it broke through the $8000 resistance line this morning.

Various reasons are suspected, from trade wars to stock market decline.A new term FOMO - Fear Of Missing Out - will be contributing too.

I have been a very small bitcoin holder for 30 months. My account rose by $80 this week so you can tell I own only a fraction of a bitcoin.

But I haven't invested any money. My holding comes from posting on the Steemit social media platform where you are paid in a crypto currency coin called Steem Dollar, stock symbol SBD. I change that from time to time into Bitcoin. I feel I have been right not to sell, especially if the experts below can be believed.

After breaking $8,000, bitcoin is back in the mainstream. And news outlets everywhere are nailing their colours to the mast.

Pro-crypto CNBC led with the headline: “Bitcoin emerges as a global hedge while stocks tumble in US-China trade war”.

While entrenched “member of the old guard” Financial Times went with a snarky article declaring Bitcoin was a “risk-free” investment:

Don't believe in central banks? No worries. Bitcoin is the US 10-year Treasury of the modern era. It hit a nine-month high on Sunday of around $7,400. Nuff said.

For proof of its risk-free credentials, look no further than Twitter, where you will find plenty of cool-headed market commentary, featuring lists of high-risk things (like shares in actual companies and the currency of the world's second-biggest economy) in the red, and safe things (like bitcoin) in the green.

But it isn’t just financial outlets writing about bitcoin now, even mainstream UK newspapers have been reporting on its latest run.

The Independent’s headline reads: “Bitcoin price surges $1,000 in just a few hours as incredible recovery continues”.

The Times dedicated an entire article, going with the headline: “Bitcoin fired up by wild weekend”.

And bitcoin’s price even sneaked its way into a Daily Mail headline: “FTSE LIVE: Unemployment falls again; Vodafone dials up a £6.6bn loss; Bakery chain Greggs is rolling it in; UK stocks in the green; Bitcoin over $8k”.

I’m still waiting on a Guardian piece, which I can all-but guarantee will be negative (see my November piece: Why must the guardian lie?)

So it seems $8,000 was the magic number that’s got everyone talking.

Just a couple of months ago the idea of bitcoin at $8,000 was laughable. Most people believed bitcoin would hit $1,000 before it hit $10,000. In fact it became a running theme in online crypto communities.

After a year of constant disappointment and heart-wrenching price drops, bitcoin was all out of trust.

Then, over the course of two months bitcoin’s price more than doubled, from under $4,000 to over $8,000.

Now people are already predicting bitcoin will break its previous all-time high and hit $20,000 within the next 12 months. And not just random commenters on the internet. Real investment banks are making these predictions

From CCN:

Canaccord Genuity, an investment banking and wealth management company based out of Vancouver, published a research note predicting that the price will gradually climb back to $20,000 by March 2021.

“Bitcoin has started to form the spring 2019 bottom we began mentioning last year, although a close look at the chart suggests the recovery may be slightly ahead of itself. Looking ahead, if bitcoin were to continue following the same trend, the implication is a slow climb back toward its all-time high of ~$20,000, theoretically reaching that level in March 2021.”

But the funny thing is, nothing’s really changed. The only thing that’s really changed in the last few months is bitcoin’s price has gone up.

Sure, there have been developments like Whole Foods announcing it will accept crypto, Fidelity announcing its custody service will open “within weeks”, Microsoft using bitcoin to create its “digital identity” program, and even Bakkt announcing its futures service will open in July.

Intriguing,what!

New Volkswagen Electric Vehicle - Plus - The James Dyson Electric Vehicle Progress Update.

New Volkswagen ID.3: 10,000 pre-orders for all-electric hatch
Volkswagen nets more than 10,000 pre-bookings for the all-electric ID.3, just 24 hours after the limited edition model's reveal

More than 10,000 reservations have been placed for the all-electric Volkswagen ID.3 across Europe during its first 24 hours on sale. The launch edition variant became available for pre-order in the UK on 8 May 2019, with a pre-booking fee of £750.

The launch edition Volkswagen ID.3 1st Plus variant will have around 260 miles of range and 110kW fast charging as standard. First deliveries of the car - the first VW to be produced on the MEB all-electric platform - aren’t expected until summer 2020.

It’s already likely that the first ID.3s will be considerably more expensive than the stated goal of the car costing “as much as a well-specced diesel Golf”. The UK spec is the middle trim level of the ID.3 1st range of launch models, and VW has only confirmed that the entry point for the more expensive launch line-up will be “less than €40,000 in Germany”. That could mean that the very first batch of ID.3 models to arrive will cost up to £40,000 in the UK - although there’s no confirmation yet on the final figure.

Those British launch editions will come with a hefty range of standard kit, including satellite navigation, voice control, LED matrix headlights and a contrast-colour roof. Options are likely to include a panoramic glass roof and an augmented-reality head-up display.

Cars will also include 2,000kWh of free fast charging during the first year of ownership although for British customers, this may only really be useful on the fledgling IONITY fast-charging network. VW UK is still finalising what other points will be tied to the allowance.

Once the line-up moves beyond the launch spec 1st models the ID.3 will be available with three different battery sizes, offering ranges of 330km (205 miles), 420km (261 miles) and 550km (342 miles) under the WLTP testing regime. Volkswagen has reiterated that the starting price of the entry level 205 mile model will be "under €30,000" (£26,000). Battery sizes are 45kWh, 58kWh and 77kWh respectively.

All versions of the car should come with the ability to charge at up to 100-125kW, giving around 162 miles of range in 30 minutes. The ID.3 1st Plus will have the mid-range 58kWh battery capable of 261 miles, promising to match the likes of the Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia e-Niro on real-world range.

VW says it will deliver 100,000 ID.3 models in 2020, the car’s first full year of production, and that this figure will rise to 110,000 units per year thereafter. The numbers on the ID.3 1st will be more limited, however, with just 30,000 examples available across 29 countries. There’s no word yet on how many of those cars have been allocated to the UK but the country is described as one of the main target countries for the model.

VW ID.3 to be a carbon-neutral car at launch
The first versions of the VW ID.3 will carbon-neutral at handover, the German firm has claimed. It's the first step on the road to a target of being a completely carbon-neutral company by 2050.

Volkswagen claims a variety of measures have been implemented to help reduce CO2 output during production of the ID.3, including converting factories to run on natural gas and greater use of renewable energy resources such as solar and wind power. VW says has also tasked its vast supplier base to use green energy and minimize their carbon emissions. It all means that if the ID.3 is recharged from green energy, it will remain CO2 neutral throughout its lifecycle.

And Where Is Dyson in the Electric Vehicle Race?

Newly revealed details provide insight into Dyson's unique take on the EV

Dyson car concept as imagined by Autocar, with patent overlay.

Dyson’s electric car, due to arrive in 2021, is likely to be a long, sleek crossover-style premium saloon that will have roughly the same footprint as a Range Rover but with completely different proportions from the classic British 4x4 – and every other production car on the road.

Key details of billionaire inventor James Dyson's thinking on electric vehicles have dramatically emerged from three patent applications made public today. They cover the car’s ultra-long wheelbase, unique 'crossover' body, unprecedentedly large and thin wheels, short body overhangs and unusually 'fast' windscreen.

As a caveat, though, Dyson’s famously secretive people emphasise that their images – and therefore ours – don’t necessarily show exactly what their car will look like, only some design and engineering devices likely to be used by it.

The Dyson car, whose long-rumoured existence was confirmed late in 2017 when the inventor revealed plans to spend £2.5 billion of his own money on it, has been taking shape for the past two years. Work has been led by former Aston Martin chief engineer Ian Minards, who joined Dyson in September 2016 as vice president, automotive.

The new Dyson patents show nothing less than a complete rethink of big-car design and engineering conventions for the fast-approaching electric age. The refinements are aimed at delivering low weight and low aerodynamic drag to maximise performance and battery range while providing generous cabin space and first-class ride comfort, a particular Dyson priority.

Autocar spoke exclusively this week to company founder Sir James Dyson at his base in Singapore, where electric cars will ultimately be manufactured after an initial batch is built at the company’s £200 million automotive HQ currently under construction in Wiltshire.

This new facility already contains a dedicated technical centre for a 500-strong body of engineers – both Dyson regulars and hirings from car makers such as Tesla and Jaguar Land Rover. It will eventually spread across six comprehensively converted wartime aircraft hangars on the 517-acre former RAF Hullavington airbase near the M4 motorway in Wiltshire. A prototype manufacturing facility will open there next month and a 10-mile test track is also under construction.

In essence, the patents describe a car that is close to the five-metre length of a standard Range Rover but more than 40cm longer in the wheelbase, at 330cm, with 4-6cm more ground clearance than the Range Rover’s standard 22cm yet at least 25cm less overall height, at around 165cm tall.

The car’s layout allows excellent approach, breakover and departure angles, even in Land Rover terms, although there’s no suggestion that Dyson wants to build a farm vehicle. “It’s just that we can have these things for free,” he said.

This high-floor/low-roof layout is made possible because of the location of the car’s wide, long, thin underfloor battery, and the adoption of saloon-like seating positions for occupants, giving what Dyson described as a “command” driving position.

What's more, the compactness of the (probable) twin electric motors allows a cab-forward layout – assisted by the short nose and raked screen – which allows much of the car’s total length to be used for accommodation. The Dyson patents propose a potential seven-seater (with centre-row and rear-row passengers mounted higher than those in front for good visibility).

A saving of around 10cm on overall width is also possible, said Dyson, because of the lack of a bulky internal combustion engine plus the adoption of narrow-section tyres on big-diameter wheels that need smaller wheel envelopes let into the body. A particular Dyson preoccupation is keeping the new car’s frontal area to a minimum, a major contributor to aerodynamic efficiency.

Dyson confirmed that the car will have an aluminium body, mostly because he and his engineers feel carbonfibre structures haven’t reached the level of maturity they believe the electric project needs. Steel is deemed too heavy.

Dyson’s patent applications contain no powertrain details – beyond a theoretical suggestion that the car could be battery, hydrogen or even petrol-hybrid powered. But Sir James Dyson confirmed that his company is researching two different types of solid-state battery, understood by laymen to be the next big thing after the lithium ion type used almost universally in EVs today.

Dyson’s solid-state battery research is proceeding in four linked global locations, including the UK. It seems a certainty that these advanced batteries (bringing advantages in energy density and lightness) will eventually be used in the Dyson car, although there are unconfirmed suggestions that lithium ion may power the earliest cars.

Sir James Dyson also won't publicly specify his car’s motors, except to suggest that more than one motor would make sense because that would increase the potential for power regeneration when the car is coasting and braking. Dyson high-speed electric motor designs are among the world’s best and most compact, so the company will build its own motors for this application and package them very compactly.

There’s enough about the specification of a five-metre car with seven-seat capability, powered by an ultra-expensive battery and riding on very special wheels, suspension and brakes to suggest that this will most definitely be a premium car.

Hiring the former Aston Martin chief engineer (Ian Minards) and inviting a former BMW big-board member, Ian Robertson, onto your board of director is another indication. Dyson himself mentioned Range Rovers and Teslas as he discussed his new car, suggesting that, in a money sense at least, they were rivals. But the only speculation about price – and it's rather idle – seems to be on which side of £100,000 of today’s money a Dyson car will sit.

The car will be sold globally and seems likely to have particular appeal in China. No production volume is spoken of, but it seems clear from the size of the engineering effort that this is much more than a bespoke, hand-made effort. The Dyson name, and the company’s global reputation for unusual, progressive, high-quality products that push at existing boundaries, will surely help it find markets. Everything we’ve seen points to a well-backed, credible, long-lasting rule-breaker of an electric luxury car. Let’s hope we’re right.

Test Drive A Kia Electric Car.Brilliant for listening to music apparently!

Kia & Hyundai Electric Vehicle News.

in electricvehicles •  42 minutes ago

Spring has brought a flurry of newsletters to my inbox especially about CBD,Cannabis and Electric Cars.

Hyundai and Kia offer some of the best electric cars that aren’t Teslas on the road today. They are affordably priced, attractively styled, and packed with electronic features. Both companies are struggling to find an adequate supply of batteries, which means there is far more demand for their electric cars than they can meet.

Elon Musk has always challenged the other car companies to build competitive electric cars. So far, only Hyundai and Kia seem to have made a serious attempt to meet that challenge.

There are compelling reasons to buy the Niro EV, but does Kia have excuses for low production? Are they building up a scarcity demand?

Tony Schaefer from 'What Drives Us' test drove the Kia Niro EV (e-Niro) over a week and considers the South Korean EV the most important new electric car on the market.

On one side, it's unremarkable, there is nothing really exceptional or extraordinary - he explains - you just drive it, easy, intuitive,it's all-electric. It's a full-size 5-seater car with decent cargo space and long range.

The Niro EV turns out to be able to go further on a charge than 235 miles (378 km) (EPA), as gentle non-winter range could be 270-290 miles (434-467 km)!

Combined with rich equipment, there are really no excuses to not buy the Kia Niro EV. Well, the first 40 were already delivered in the U.S. in April and now the ball is on Kia's side, as we are wondering if the automaker has the production capacity to meet what's sure to be high demand.

The cool features noted in the review include a tire pressure indicator for each individual tire, heated and ventilated seats, sun visor that expands, useful cup holder/storage compartment, Lane Keep Assist and a rewind satellite radio feature to listen to a particular song from the beginning.

So,No More Excuses!! The Kia Niro EV is the most important new EV on the market! Seriously!!

Tony had a Kia Niro EV for a week. During that time, he was impressed with the tech, creature features, and the fact that the estimated miles per charge keeps going up! Be sure to watch the video to the very end.

The Niro EV is a very important car to hit the American market because it is a 5-seater, high-mileage EV with ample cargo space expected to be priced - base model - in the high 30s. After Federal rebate, it should be around $30,000 and less if you qualify for state rebates! You have no more excuses to avoid EVs. Go test drive this car!
