Cannabis Edibles Cookbook

Few can be unaware of the frenzy surrounding Cannabis and CBD Hemp and wonder if the fuss and claims are justified.

Many may wonder what it’s like to try but are naturally cautious.

CBD Hemp and Cannabis Companies are addressing this by introducing more and more edibles. These are mainly in the form of sweets, biscuits and treats infused with CBD and even THC – which is the cannabinoid chemical that intoxicates – ‘Buyer be aware is sensible’. Always read the label for any THC content.

Edibles are so convenient. They offer everyone from athletes to medical patients an easier and more discrete way to use cannabis-based medicine.

CBD has shown signs of reducing inflammation, promoting sounder sleep, helping to fight stress and anxiety, and alleviating cancer-related symptoms.

Cannabis food recipes and cookbooks, that include some of the cannabis or cbd industrial hemp plant as an ingredient, are being published and sought.

For those interested in making their own cannabis and cbd edibles, below is a selection of recipe books on Amazon.

Netflix recently televised a “Cooking on High,” series, and in one episode featured 'Chef Dee', author, holistic healer, advocate, and edible maker who talked about her book ‘The Happy Chef’, Available from Amazon. Details at the end of this post.

Excerpts from the Netflix Interview with Cannabis Expert Chef Dee -

With so many new products flooding the cannabis market, Dee was asked – ‘When fully legal, do you think cannabis will be commonly used in our everyday foods and beverages, or will people just selectively buy cannabis-infused products for the health benefits’?

Chef Dee: ‘My beliefs and practice match that of the quote attributed to Hippocrates, “Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food.” In my profession and research, it has been my mindset that what I see as the cause of so many illness or ailments is from what has happened over time to our food and our medicine.

I grew up “farm-to-table” in the country. I believe it to be “chemical warfare” to our bodies that creates toxicities that we cannot process correctly.

Sadly, the public is consuming so many synthesized ingredients that they can’t pronounce the name of has become the norm.

That’s why I feel more people are having a harder time processing these “foods” and their “ingredients.” They are harder to process, leading to weight issues and overall health issues.
Cannabis, or more importantly CBD Hemp, may just be the turning point needed’

'Cometh The Hour,Cometh The Man'/Leader!

Prompted by the thouight that we need strong leadership!

I first published this post on Steemit Social Media almost 2 years ago. It's re-published on the platform today!

'At 21 I took a nurse out -  at 91 I need a nurse to take me out!'

Not quite that bad yet but it did cross my mind when I joined the family recently for a short woodland walk. It was only about 2 miles in total, but I was relieved to get back to the car, because my legs became very stiff, and with knee pain as well.

But it was good to see the great grandchildren running happily and excitedly about like Spring lambs in the first signs of sunny warm weather.

Part of the pleasure of walks is conversation. One of the topics discussed was the film ‘Darkest Hour’ and Gary Oldman’s Oscar winning performance as Winston Churchill.

I was interested in Winston Churchill from my early twenties and gathered much information about him.

It started when I saw a quote of his ‘It is a good thing for an uneducated man to read books of quotations’

That registered with me because I qualified on both counts. I had an elementary education at a small country school, leaving at the age of 13years and 9 months to become a baker’s rounds boy.

The 10 shillings a week it paid – todays equivalent = (GBP- 0.50p – USD-0.70) helped my family’s main low agricultural wage!

And I liked quotations and had in my possession ‘The Oxford Book of Quotations’

Churchill described how he read ‘Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations’ intently.

When I was offered the opportunity to get a foot on the management ladder in 1954  I decided I needed to improve my education, so attended evening classes two nights a week for 2 years.

On one occasion a homework task was to write an essay about someone famous. My article on Churchill got top mark, 10/10. I treasured it for ages, but It has got lost over time, but I am pleased to write something about the great man again.

He is best remembered for his wartime leadership, and for his inspiring speeches.

‘He mobilized the English language and sent it into battle’ said John F Kennedy in 1963 when granting Churchill US citizenship.

Churchill invited to address the U S Congress in December 1941, said –

' I cannot help reflecting that if my father had been American and my mother British, instead of the other way round, I might have got here on my own'

Lady Nancy Astor, who clashed with Winston in the House of Commons many times, mentioned his mother being American and calling him ‘half alien’

Asked by Adlai Stevenson, in 1955 on what he based his oratorical style, Churchill told him 'America - and Bourke Cochran, who taught me to use every note of the human voice as if playing an organ'.

Video - Rediscovering young Winston's classical liberal American mentor, Bourke Cockran.
https://youtu.be/btXx8rKDszM

Cochran, a New York politician could play on every emotion and hold thousands riveted, yet it is Churchill who is remembered for his oratory.

I think that is because the Second World War provided the stage and the opportunity for his speaking powers to flourish, and the dire situation facing the country drew out and stretched them to their full potential.

Being gifted is not enough in itself. The right opportunity is necessary for latent ability to waken and grow through challenge.

Churchills fame also rests on his many books. These include. ‘The World Crisis’ (four volumes 1923- 9 )’Marlborough’ (four volumes 1933 -8) ‘The Second World War’ (six volumes 1948-54) and ‘ A History of the English-Speaking Peoples’ (four volumes 1956-8)

Altogether he published more words than Charles Dickens and Walter Scott combined.

He could also have found fame as an artist. He painted well enough for the painter Sir John Lavery to say 'Had he chosen painting instead of statesmanship. I believe he would have become a great master with the brush' and his work under the name Charles Morin was accepted by the Louvre.

He enjoyed bricklaying, even accepting an invitation to join ‘The Amalgamated Union of Building Trade Workers’.

For someone whose formal education was less than full, the list of achievements is especially impressive.

However it may be, Churchill suggested his slow progress was a blessing in disguise: ‘By being so long in the lowest form I gained an immense advantage over the cleverer boys.

‘I was able to devote more time to studying the English language. The essential structure of the ordinary British sentence ….. is a noble thing’

He is also well remembered for his quick wit, and many are the quotes that regularly appear in publications.

The best feature his verbal jousts with Lady Nancy Astor and Bessie Braddock M.P.

Nancy Astor was an American Citizen who moved to England in 1905 aged 26. In 1906 she married her second husband, Waldorf Astor’ a member of the British aristocracy.

She became the first British female MP in 1919.

One of the most frequently quoted exchanges between the pair occurred at Blenheim when the Astors and the Churchills were weekend guests of The Duke of Marlborough.

Churchill and Nancy Astor apparently argued ferociously the whole time, capping it with this exasperated outburst -

Nancy Astor ‘If I were your wife, I would poison your coffee’

Churchill: ‘Nancy, If I were your husband, I would drink it.’

Other less publicised ones that I like –

Winston was addressing the House of Commons, a Member of Parliament called Wilfred Paling stood up and shouted, 'You dirty dog!'

The reply was swift. ‘Yes. And the Honourable Member should remember what dirty dogs do to palings!'

On Cannabis, are governments imitating the satirical art of Spitting Image!

On Cannabis, are governments imitating the satirical art of Spitting Image!

Is it just me or is life imitating art? what was once ridiculed and made fun of on political satire programmes like ‘The Frost Report’ and ‘Spitting Image’ have become reality?

Consider this (1)

Cannabis sales and use are not legal yet at USA national government level, but many states ignore that, and sales are booming with the financial markets forecasting $20 billion turnover by this time next year!

In an official notice, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) which is a government office, announced it wants 3.2 million grams of cannabis to be grown in 2020 for use in scientific studies to investigate the effects of the plant.

The U.S. Government even holds a cannabis patent (#6,630,507

What the US Patent 6630507 says in brief - Cannabis Cannabinoids are powerful antioxidants which have the potential to treat a myriad of age-related, inflammatory, and auto-immune disorders. The patent goes on to say cannabinoids are also a natural neuroprotectant which could help treat neurological damage caused by stroke and trauma, as well as other health conditions

Consider this ( 2)

The EU & UK are semi paralysed by stalemate –

For over 3 years they’ve disagreed over something they agree about -
No hard border on the Island of Ireland!

A sure sign there IS intelligent life on another planet is they haven’t been in touch with us!

Cannabis. CBD Hemp Oils for Dogs & Pets Case Study Update

Increasingly you will be hearing about a medicinal herb you can give your dog,cat and other pets - CBD from Cannabis Hemp.

The confusion about whether Cannabis is good or bad for health is because it can be both.

Cannabidiol or CBD is one of the most prevalent compounds in the cannabis plant. Most pet owners were unaware of it until word spread that CBD oil could stop epileptic seizures, calm anxiety, and help many animals with those problems.

THC or tetrahydrocannabinol is the part of cannabis that is highly psychoactive, and whilst also having medicinal properties in prescribed and controlled amounts, it is also capable of inducing intoxicating highs which can lead to dependency and become health threatening.

Dog owners are using CBD oils to help their pets with a wide range of ailments – from anxiety to arthritis to cancer.

CBD  for people & pets is from Industrial Hemp;a cannabis family species, but a separate plant.Marijuana is the Mexican name for Cannabis..

For a long time, hemp was illegal in the US and other countries because it got lumped in with other forms of cannabis. Today, you can buy hempseed products in your local grocery store – not just soaps and lotions, but hempseed protein powders and drinks like hempseed milk.

The cannabis plant has over 60 chemicals called cannabinoids. The two main types of cannabinoids are cannabidiol (CBD) (The recommended one for Pets) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) ( Not Recommended For Pets)

CBDs are therapeutic cannabinoids, while THC is the cannabinoid that produces a high, and pets are uncomfortable and frightened by that feeling.

Marijuana’s THC content is usually between 10 and 15 percent; but hemp must have a THC content of 0.3 percent or less. At this level, cannabis has no intoxicating effect, for people or dogs.
Hemp is higher in CBD, the substance that provides the therapeutic effects.

How CBD Works

Studies show that many cannabinoids in CBD hemp have anti-inflammatory qualities, and can help with pain, tumours, seizures, muscle spasms, skin conditions, appetite stimulation, aggression, anxiety and neurological disorders .

If your dog’s taking conventional drugs for any of these conditions, CBD hemp may make it possible to use lower doses of the drugs to achieve therapeutic effects. Since conventional medicines do have side effects, this is a useful benefit of CBD.

(Note, if the conventional drugs are prescribed by your dog’s vet, then consult before giving CBD hemp to avoid any possibility of conflict)

As with any herbal medicine, for most ailments you may not see an immediate effect. You’ll need to be patient.

Your dog may feel some pain relief in a few hours but other symptoms like inflammation may take a few days to show improvement.

Safety

First, because of the low THC, CBD hemp won’t make your dog high.

The most common side effect of CBD is that your dog may get a little drowsy – about the same as if you gave it a Benadryl.

On rare occasions, side effects have included excessive itchiness or mild vomiting, but these sensitivities are few and far between. If your dog reacts with these symptoms, you should stop giving cannabis.

Case Examples
Australian holistic veterinarian Dr Edward Bassingthwaighte says he’s been amazed at the success he’s had treating some dogs with cannabis. Here is one of many he has written about.
An elderly Staffordshire terrier had a fast-growing tumour about 6 cm in diameter in her mammary gland. Chest x-rays showed there might be metastasis. Dr Bassingthwaighte treated her with CBD oil and some other herbal medicines.

The tumour shrank away to nothing over three months and she’s still going strong six months later, with no recurrence. She’d had multiple tumours surgically removed over the years, but it was the CBD oil that really helped her.

Dr Bassingthwaighte suggests working with your holistic vet if you think cannabis would help your dog – it’s powerful medicine so at least let your vet know what you’re doing

Where to Buy CBD Hemp For Your Dog
The safest way to use CBD for your dog is to use a product that’s formulated for pets. There are several companies producing CBD hemp for dogs(See bottom of this page) Some of these are in oil or tincture form, while others make treats with CBD.

Dosing
Herbalist Rita Hogan was asked for advice on dosing CBD oils.
Every dog is different. Rita recommends starting with a low dose and working up to the recommended level so that your dog gets the right dose for its individual needs.

Start Low
Rita recommends starting with 1 drop of CBD oil per 10 lbs of your dog’s body weight per day. Give this dose for about a week, then move up to 1 drop per 10 lbs of body weight twice per day.

Some companies sell their CBD in capsules. In this case, start with a quarter of the recommended dose and increase gradually until you see the benefits (again, without side effects).

If there are no side effects, increase the dose every 4 to 5 days until you see the therapeutic benefits. Side effects may include disorientation, hyperactivity, vomiting or excessive sedation. If you note any of these effects, stop treatment, wait for them to go, then restart at a lower dose.

Be sure to observe your dog’s response. The key is to find a dose where you don’t see side effects, but you do see results. With continued use, you may need to increase the dose a little over time to achieve the therapeutic results.

If you prefer to buy the CBD treats offered by some companies, start with a quarter cookie and work up gradually from there. Don’t exceed the manufacturer’s maximum recommended dose for your dog’s size

Caution: make sure you store the treats where your pets can’t get into them, and make sure others don’t hand them out as they would regular treats!

You can use CBD hemp safely and effectively (as well as legally) to treat many canine health issues. And it won’t get your dog high!

Cannabis will loosen the grip of opioid pain killer addiction - Claim!

Cannabis will loosen the grip of opioid pain killer addiction - Claim!

Compounds found in the cannabis plant are proving effective pain remedies for soldiers returning from war, athletes recovering from injuries, and people looking to reduce the pain of their daily routines.

The study also reports that deaths from opioid overdose initially fell by 25% in U.S states that legalized cannabis for medical use. This is exciting news because cannabis and hemp research has been patchy, due to controversy and uncertainty over cannabis legalisation.

Consequently, it is expected that the opioid pain killer addiction grip will loosen on dependancy sufferers,as plant science discovers ever more about the many different compounds in cannabis that can treat and relieve pain.

Cannabinoids of which THC & CBD are best known, form one class of compounds; terpenes form another. But two molecules of a third class of compounds produced by the cannabis plant have proven in early trials to be 30x more effective at managing pain than aspirin.

That third class of cannabis compounds are flavonoids. Yes,yes flavonoids are common. We're all familiar with those important little blighters. They are in many of our daily foods because all plants produce flavonoids, and they are particularly plentiful in enjoyable treats like blueberries, dark chocolate and red wine.

But it is not just the synergy of the three cannabis compounds - cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids - that is so powerful and encouraging

(Synergy - the power of a group combining together that is greater than each working separately. i.e team work)

It is also because the two flavonoid molecules mentioned earlier - cannflavin A and cannflavin B - are produced only by the cannabis plant, and they are drawing a lot of attention from pharmaceutical researchers.

Research verified that the two compounds were, gram-for-gram, 30 times more effective at reducing inflammation than aspirin.

And they work differently than opioids in managing pain.

Opioids – like hydrocodone, codeine, and fentanyl – work by blocking the brain’s pain receptors. They do nothing to treat the cause of the pain, but Cannflavins go straight to the source of the pain – inflammation.

A drug derived from cannflavin B has also shown encouraging signs of effectiveness in killing pancreatic cancer cells when administered in conjunction with radiation treatment.

However, cannflavin A and B are only produced in small amounts by the cannabis plant.

But researchers from the University of Guelph have discovered how to produce the molecules cannflavin A & B in large quantities, and one company now has the patent on the process.

The researchers studied the cannabis genome and found the pathways to the cannflavins. This discovery allowed them to take those genes and use them to modify microorganisms and manufacture the compounds in abundance through biosynthesis.

Anahit International, a private Toronto-based company, has licensed a patent from the University of Guelph that covers the process and will work on scaling up the technology.

Could be exciting times ahead in new medicine, thanks to NHS - Nature's Health Service!
